Coming Soon: Hidden Congregations Storytelling Iniative
Many congregations serve as anchors of hope, support, innovation, and renewal within their communities. Yet, despite their profound impact, much of this work remains unseen.
The Hidden Congregations: Inspiring Stories of Discipleship Initiative is a five-year national storytelling project that seeks to identify, document, and amplify the stories of 20 small, under-resourced Christian congregations across the country. Through compelling multimedia storytelling, strategic partnerships, and meaningful community engagement, the initiative shines a light on churches, particularly those led by Black, Brown, immigrant, and working-class communities that are transforming lives every day with limited resources.
By elevating these stories, Hidden Congregations challenges prevailing narratives of church decline and invites a broader audience to recognize the vital role congregations continue to play in fostering economic opportunity, cultivating hope, and strengthening communities. Together with Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary and with support from Lilly Endowment Inc., Oikos is helping ensure that these remarkable stories are not only told but celebrated as powerful examples of faith in action.
